Pizzeria Limone

Construction of my pizza has begun

When you eat boring, greasy pizza you become angry.  When you become angry, you quit your job.  When you quit your job you move into the wilderness.  When you move into the wilderness you start eating berries.  When you start eating berries, you become a vegetarian.  DON’T BECOME A VEGETARIAN!!  And stop eating boring pizza.  (No offense vegetarians.  I just love my protein 🙂 )

Pizzeria Limone reminds me of the very first pizza place I blogged downtown SLC, Settebello.  The thing that Settebello and Pizzeria Limone share in common is that they don’t lather on cheese all over the pizza, but instead use it as a topping, and mix it in with other gourmet toppings.  The result is a pizza you can really savor and enjoy.

The Viola

I asked for the special and the cook strongly recommended the Viola which is marina, fresh and aged mozzarella cheese, prosciutto ham, blackberries, olive oil, and basil.  It was the blackberries that really caught my attention.  They make it right in front of you while you are standing there.  What I loved about the Viola’s taste was how they took the blackberries and rolled them around in sugar.  That gave them a real caramelized taste when they came out of the oven, and it went just perfect with the salt based prosciutto ham.  The crust was nice and chewy.  The sauce was about right.  There were a few little burn bubbles on the crust, but I forgave those as these pizza’s cook really fast in the wood fire oven.

Salsiccia Pizza

My friend ordered the Salsiccia which has mozzarella and parmigiano reggiano cheese along with fennel sausage tomatoes, red onions, kalamata olives, olive oil, and basil.  I’ve noticed a lot of new pizza places are going with the fennel sausage now.  Fennel sausage tastes great on pizza.  I’ve also always been a fan of kalamata olives since I first had them at Granato’s Italian Market years ago.  This is what I’m talking about when I say gourmet pizza.  They offer you something different in the taste department.

The kid’s pizza was actually the same size as the main entrée pizzas, just without all the gourmet ingredients.  You can get them in cheese or pepperoni.  Pizzeria Limone also has one of those cool Coke machines that has tons of different options.  If you have not tried peach Sprite, it is really good.

In conclusion Pizzeria Limone is a nice place to visit.  The pizzas are fresh; the ingredients are well thought out and mix well with each other.  And if you are looking for something not quite as heavy as Papa Johns or The Pie, this place might be for you.  The downside would be at $8 dollars a 10 inch pizza, I left not quite as full as I would have hoped for at that price.  If you are looking for “cheap” eats, you might want to skip this place, but if you don’t mind paying a few extra bucks for some great tasting pizza, then you should try Pizzeria Limone.
