Habit Burger Grill
Sugarhouse is a great place to go when you are looking for a good bite to eat, so when Habit Burger Grill opens the doors to their first Utah location tomorrow, they will feel right at home. I attended their soft opening tonight, with all proceeds going to charity with not knowing what to expect. I remember the last California burger joint to open here had everyone all up in the clouds excited and that was In and Out Burger. Let me go on record by saying that I don’t know what is more overrated: Tim Tebow or In and Out Burger. I think Habit Burger Grill does it right, and hopefully I won’t grow too much of a habit by going there too much, because otherwise, I’ll never fulfill my New Year’s Resolution by dropping a few pounds.
Habit Burger has several different sections of the menu to choose from starting with their selection of charbroiled burgers, and then adding freshly grilled sandwiches, and hand crafted salads as well. Yes they have fries, onion rings, and sweet potato fries along with shakes and ice cream to complete the menu. Since it was a burger joint, I felt it my duty to try the burgers. As I was looking at the menu, I did have a moment of confusion before placing my order. I noticed a $4.50 price next to the BBQ Bacon charburger. I thought to myself “I wonder what that means? That can’t be the burger price, because that’s way too cheap!” If you go around town and look at other specialty burgers, you would expect to pay $6-$10 dollars a burger. Habit Burger neighbors Fat’s Grill and Smash Burger both have tasty burgers, but nothing this cheap.
The burger itself I rate well above average. I actually tasted the crispyness of the bacon as I bit into it. Other places like Wendy’s have value menu bacon burgers where you sometimes can’t tell there is bacon at all. You actually have to look on the inside of the bun, and peel the bacon off as if it were a piece of tape. Not at Habit Burger. They have really good bacon burgers. I wouldn’t put them in the class of the Training Table Bacon Burger, but they are easily leaps and bounds above any fast food joint. The patty itself is charbroiled from fresh ground beef. I give additional bonus points for offering grilled onions like 5 Guys does. They give other good options like mushrooms and avocado for a $1 extra. Overall burger score is just very solid. For what you are paying, you are getting a great product.
My first impression of the french fries, was me looking around the condiment area in desperate search of fry sauce. I saw none, and that was a red flag for me. However, upon asking the manager about it, not only did he bring me out a fresh batch of hot fries, but also a concoction of original fry sauce they have been working on. Crisis averted! The fry sauce was more than just your mayo and ketchup mix. I understand it had a little A-1 sauce with some Cholula sauce as well. It has some zip and zap to it that tasted great.
Check this scrumptious looking work of art. I let my wife be the judge of this, and she said it was actually one of the best salads that she has ever tasted. One thing she noticed is how the under layer of lettuce was “juicy” instead of “dry” and she liked that feature. The chicken was grilled fresh from the kitchen, and the guacamole according to her report had a great flavor. This is just one of several salad choices offered by Habit Burger Grill.
You guys already know how I am with seafood and fish. I normally don’t order it, but when I try it, I end up loving it. The only exception is sushi, which may change with time since I currently have a few sushi lovers that are working on converting me over to the faith. This grilled albacore tuna above once again proved to me just how wonderful freshly grilled seafood can be. I was impressed with the size of the fillet they grilled. For what you get, you can easily expect to pay upwards toward $10 bucks, but this sandwich will only set you back $6. The grilled sourdough bread was awesome, and the teriyaki sauce was light and tasty. I loved it!
Ah the joys of trying a new burger place. Everyone reading this knows they want to come try Habit Burger Grill as soon as possible. Future locations being planned are up in Farmington by the new Cinemark theatre, and also Sandy in the parking lot of Scheels Sporting Goods store, both great locations. But before those additional locations open, come try Habit Burger out and see for yourself how yummy they are. See you there!
